Welcome

Welcome to my personal site. My name is Kris Herbert, literary translator and fiction writer. I am the translator of Rita Halász's novel Deep Breath, published by Catapult Books this May 2025. I have also translated shorter works from Hungarian authors Anna Terék, Bettina Simon, Eszter T. Molnár, among others. I have previously published under the name Kristen Herbert. I am a recent graduate of the University of California-Riverside's MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts program in Fiction, as well as the Fulbright Hungary U.S. Student Scholarship program. I was a staff editor for Hungarian Literature Online in 2021 and founded the Hungarian-English bilingual magazine The Penny Truth with my co-editor Will Collins that same year.
